Hít tinh dầu grapefruit được nghiên cứu cả human và animal. Contreras et al. 2014 (PMID 24707624): hít grapefruit oil làm giảm sympathetic nerve activity, blood pressure và không gây lo âu; cơ chế khác các citrus oils khác (không chỉ qua limonene 5-HT1A). Nootkatone: novel AMPK activator — nghiên cứu nhiều nhất về anti-obesity nhưng cũng có CNS effects. D-Limonene (5-HT1A agonist, GABA-A modulator qua linalool); , PMID 20553986

Chống viêm

D-Limonene (~90%) ức chế NF-κB, COX-2, 5-LOX; β-caryophyllene (CB2 agonist) — cao hơn sweet orange (~0.3–3% vs ~0.1–0.5%); nootkatone kích hoạt AMPK → giảm adipose inflammation; , PMID 39281520

Antimicrobial / Antibiofilm

Grapefruit EO ức chế Pseudomonas aeruginosa quorum sensing — cơ chế độc đáo (quorum sensing inhibition → antibiofilm); MIC tốt chống Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella paratyphi, Vibrio vulnificus, Aspergillus flavus; D-limonene + nootkatone synergy; (Avis et al. quorum sensing)

Anti-obesity / Metabolic

Nootkatone là AMPK activator — tăng energy expenditure, giảm lipid accumulation in vitro và in vivo (mouse models); Kamimura et al. 2012 (C. paradisi nootkatone mice): giảm mỡ nội tạng đáng kể; liên quan đến lý do grapefruit diet phổ biến (mặc dù không hoàn toàn = EO); (Kamimura 2012)

C. paradisi EO cho tyrosinase inhibitory activity mạnh nhất trong nhóm citrus peel oils — nootkatone, δ-amorphene, elemol, γ-eudesmol được xác nhận qua in vitro và molecular docking (Sajid et al. 2024, PMID 39281520); ứng dụng skincare chống tăng sắc tố; relevant cao với da Fitzpatrick III–V VN

C. paradisi không có truyền thống YHCT VN lâu đời (cây nhập từ nước ngoài); tuy nhiên bưởi VN (C. grandis) có truyền thống YHCT rất sâu — dễ nhầm lẫn. Grapefruit EO (C. paradisi) được dùng trong thị trường aromatherapy VN hiện đại cho: body massage giảm béo (truyền miệng), khuếch tán không khí tươi mát, làm đẹp da. ⚠️ Khi mua "tinh dầu bưởi" tại VN, cần xác nhận rõ đây là C. paradisi (bưởi chùm Mỹ) hay C. grandis (bưởi VN) — hoàn toàn khác nhau
